I am aware of the legal obligations around working with children. It is against the law to engage anyone in child related work without a Working With Children Check. Employers need to keep records for each worker.

GISS facilities are available for hire to community groups, sport clubs and companies.
The hirer acknowledges that The School may require the facility for its own use within the hire period. In any such case, the School will endeavour to give 2 weeks notice to the Hirer. Where possible the School will offer alternative hiring dates/times or offer a refund.The minimum hire charge for the Sports Hall is $100,00 plus GST per 2-hour session and $50 for any additional hour or part thereof. The hire charge for the Outdoor Sports Field is $75,00 plus GST per 2-hour session and $35 for any additional hour or part thereof. GISS supported or organised activities might be eligible for a discount or fee waiver, please enquire before booking. The School reserves the right to review the charges and will inform the Hirer about any changes no later than 4 weeks from the changes becoming effective. The School will provide the Hirer with a quarterly invoice in arrears, which is payable to the School’s nominated bank account within 14 days.
Either party can terminate the agreement giving no less than 4 weeks notice. The School reserves the right to terminate this agreement with immediate effect if the Hirer is found to fail to comply with the conditions as specified in this agreement.Responsibilities of the Hirer The Hirer must have public liability insurance with cover of at least A$ 10,000,000 per occurrence and must maintain this insurance cover during the entire period of this agreement. The Hirer is required to provide the School with a copy of the Certificate of Currency. This agreement automatically ceases at the end of the insurance period specified on the Certificate of Currency unless the Hirer provides the School with a copy of a new Certificate of Currency. The Hirer will be issued with a security swipe card to gain access to the agreed facilities. It is the Hirer’s responsibility to ensure that the swipe card is kept in a safe place. In case a swipe card is lost or stolen the Hirer must inform the School as soon as possible. The Hirer accepts liability for any theft or damage to the School’s property until the Hirer reports the lost or stolen swipe card to the School.
The Hirer must give written notice to the School of any accident resulting in bodily injury occurring on School premises or in any way connected with the use of School premises as soon as practicable. The notice must include details of the time, place and circumstances of the accident and the names and addresses of any person(s) witnessing the accident. The Hirer is responsible for first aid / first aid kits and in the event of an emergency have appropriate measures in place to handle any given situation.
The School premises are a non-smoking environment. The Hirer is responsible for ensuring that no smoking is permitted anywhere on the premises. The Hirer is also responsible for ensuring that no prohibited substances are brought onto or used on the premises. The sale, supply and/or consumption of alcohol requires approval by the school. It is the responsibility of the Hirer to obtain any necessary or appropriate liquor permit if alcohol is to be sold or otherwise made available.
The School is fitted with an automated smoke and heat detection system. In case smoke or heat is detected, the system automatically sounds the evacuation alarm and alerts the fire brigade. If the Hirer or a person under the Hirer’s supervision is responsible for triggering the alarm (e.g. smoking), the Hirer is responsible for the fee incurred ($1600 per incident as of Dec. 2019) by the fire brigade for the call-out.
A $100 swipe card deposit is payable by the Hirer prior to the first use of the facilities under this agreement. The key deposit is refunded to the Hirer as soon as all commitments from this agreement are settled and the swipe card has been returned.
If the Hirer provides services to children and young people, the Hirer must comply with all applicable legislation particularly child protection legislation (which includes, but is not limited to, ensuring that every coach, worker or volunteer has completed a working with children check).
The Hirer must ensure that the lights and air-condition are switched off and the premises are properly secured when leaving. The facilities are to be left clean and any equipment moved during the use of the premises is returned and secured. If the facilities are found to be not satisfactorily cleaned the School may charge the Hirer for additional cleaning cost.
The Hirer is also responsible to ensure no person is left on the premises after locking up. The premises are to be inspected by the Hirer before use to ensure the safety of people using the facilities. The Hirer should advise the School if the facilities are not in a satisfactory state. All reasonable steps must be taken by the Hirer to satisfy him/her/itself that there is no reasonable risk of injury to any person participating in the Hirer’s activity.
The Hirer is responsible for ensuring that all persons attending the premises at any time in connection with the Hirer’s activity respect the peace and quiet of neighbours. The Hirer must ensure that any electrical equipment brought onto the School’s premises is safe, has been tested and tagged. The Hirer must report any damages or dangerous equipment – irrespective of whether they have been found on arrival or where the Hirer is responsible for the damage – to the School as soon as possible. Any equipment not fit / safe for use must not be used. Any damage caused by the Hirer is to be paid for by the Hirer. The Hirer is responsible for ensuring that the capacity of the premises and any equipment associated with it is not exceeded. The Hirer is responsible for ensuring that fire-fighting equipment is not discharged, used or interfered with for any reason other than its designated purpose. The Hirer must ensure that fire doors and emergency exits are not obstructed. The Hirer must ensure that children and young people are supervised while on the School’s premises at all times. The School is not responsible for any property left upon or in the premises. The Hirer is not allowed to sub-let the School premises. The Hirer must not use the facilities for anything other than the agreed purpose. The Hirer must nominate a contact person. Any notice given under this agreement is given to the contact person. The School will nominate a contact person.
The School will also provide contact details for emergencies. The School will provide an induction on the security system and emergency procedures to person(s) nominated by the Hirer prior to the first use of the facilities. Additional conditions / responsibilities:
The sports hall must only be used with non-marking shoes. No food is to be taken into the sports hall. Water is allowed, but any spillage must be cleaned immediately.
